Global Quarterly Q1 2026
On behalf of our team at Lundgreen’s Investor Insights, I present to you our first Global Quarterly magazine for 2026. This publication could not come at a better time as we are right in the middle of yet another market disruptor: the US-Iran conflict that has put global oil supply under threat.
The global economy is increasingly pressured on all fronts more than two months into the US and Israel’s attacks against Tehran, though negotiations are underway. Crude oil shipping routes are literally in dire straits as the Strait of Hormuz has become the battlefront of President Donald Trump’s military campaign, with the rest of the world unduly made to suffer the consequences of such actions.
Beyond this crisis, we see that weaker growth is beyond oil – rather, it only amplifies market volatility as countries deal with their internal challenges. We identify domestic concerns in this issue, such as the great value destruction inflicted by Trump on American assets, a heavier tax burden borne by European labourers, and depressed consumption by Chinese households. We likewise assess attempts at fiscal reform in Germany and the UK, though we find these efforts wanting. As a result, the global middle class is expanding, in part due to formerly affluent families dropping to lower income deciles. This, of course, is not good news.
This magazine is part of our rigorous research that shapes our own investment strategies and the advice that we share with clients. We see pockets of opportunities ahead despite the seemingly bleak outlook, particularly in emerging markets like China and India.
We welcome any feedback that you may have, and we hope that our insights will spark interesting conversations.
